NOTES FROM THE DIRECTORS
We are happy to say that students will be playing their instruments in class beginning
this TUESDAY 9/8/20. Just a few notes about this below:
Don’t forget that you will still enter the building just as you have since August (please do not try to enter school through the band room doors)
You may drop off instruments in the band room starting at 7:30am. Then you will go straight to your 1st period class
Please bring all required materials (masks with a slit for playing, puppy pads or similar material to absorb water, and collapsible wire music stands. These can fit in your instrument locker)
Students will come straight to the band room after 3rd period and then we will assign seats prior to eating lunch
At the end of the day, students will be able retrieve instruments to take home. Just remember that you must depart the building no later than 3:00pm

Senior photos were taken this past week. Thanks to everyone who paid for the senior banners already. If you didn’t pay last week, please do so - details below:
Payment: $26.50. Do not submit payment to the band or band boosters. Preferred payment via Venmo (username: rwkidder). You can also write a check, payable to Richelle Kidder, and drop off at 9227 Longwood Lane, 38139. No cash, please.

Since there is not a “show shirt” this year, section leaders and the directors decided to produce a 2020-21 Houston Band shirt for all members. This will be used as a possible performance shirt later this year. The graphic image was designed by Freshmen Color Guard member, Tess Oldershaw. The shirts will be a “carolina blue” color. ALL band and color guard members need complete the Band T-Shirt Order Form to select their t-shirt size no later than Saturday, September 12th. Be sure to hit submit at the end. If we don’t hear from you, we can’t guarantee a size.
Parents: you are welcome to purchase additional shirts at $16.00 each. Please complete the order form and indicate how you will complete payment. This can be done via check/cash turned into the “Woody box” at school, mailed to Band P.O. Box or with Paypal/credit card through the donate button on the website.
ALL ORDERS MUST BE COMPLETED BY SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12th.
FOOTBALL PEP BAND
We are still hoping to have a small pep band for the Houston football game on September 18th. This will not be a mandatory band event but a volunteer opportunity. A sign-up genius will be distributed as soon as we get clearance from the Shelby County Health Department. Seniors will be given first priority then Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen.
There will be very specific guidelines that will need to be adhered to by those playing at the game. We will also have mandatory after school rehearsal (3:00pm-4:30pm) on Wednesday, September 16 and Thursday, September 17 for those signed up. Please don’t sign up for a spot if you can’t be there for those rehearsals.
