NOTES FROM THE DIRECTORS

  • Students MUST have COVID Supplies EVERY DAY (Wire Stands, Playing Masks, Bell Covers, Puppy Pads).

  • Students, please stay current with assignments in Schoology and be sure to have all of your music printed and with you every day in class

ALL WEST

Like everything in 2020, All West will look different this year. More details will follow, but auditions will not be in person, but will be made via video submissions. Videos will be due to the directors in early February. They will be judged and an All West/All State list will be generated. WTSBOA has not decided if there will be an All West Clinic, but it is very unlikely. The All State Festival is cancelled for 2020-21 school year.

HOLIDAY VIDEO

Since we won’t be able to host our usual Holiday Concert this December, we wanted to be able to showcase our student’s talent in another way. We will be working on holiday music throughout the second quarter. We will be then be recording a video performance of these selections. This performance will include all band, percussion, and guard students. Students will be getting details during class and the final product will be distributed to our band families.

COOKIE DOUGH/BUTTER BRAIDS

Thank you to all the families that ordered Otis Spunkmeyer and Butter Braids. Our fundraising Chair, Amy Burgess and Assistant Treasurer Molly Opferman have been working very hard to organize it and we placed our order on Friday. We will be sending a message when the product arrives and is ready for pickup in the next couple of weeks.

SENIOR RECOGNITION

The Fall Senior Recognition Night will take place November 5th or 6th. We are still awaiting confirmation from Athletics, but please reserve both nights on your calendar in case of inclement weather. A fun 2020 alternative to our usual cafeteria/auditorium event, we will be hosting our Seniors and their families outside at the football stadium this year. This will allow for proper social distance and an outdoor venue. Activities will include each senior being announced, everyone can then watch the previous 3 years of marching shows on the jumbotron, along with a special video clip from each senior that are being recorded this week. Families of seniors please mark your calendars for this special night.

STUDENT TEACHER

We are delighted to host an extra temporary staff member this quarter. Connor Byrd is a Senior Music Education Major at the University of Memphis and will be student teaching this quarter. He is a saxophone player and one of the Drum Majors for the Mighty Sound of the South.

2020 BAND MEMBER T-SHIRTS

If you have not picked up your 2020 Band Member t-shirt during one of our pickup times, they are now sitting in Mr. Taylor’s office. If you are hybrid, please see him during class. If you are virtual, please organize a time to come by and pick it up by emailing Mr. Taylor.

DRUMLINE AND COLORGUARD

Winterguard and Drumline are still working towards the goal of an indoor season. They are waiting for announcements from MIA and WGI to find out how that will operate. Please keep monitoring your assignments in Schoology and practice your All West music.
