10/22/2022 2:00p Arkansas State Competition

On Saturday, we will be competing in the A-State Open at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro AR. See the attached flier for the complete competition details.

PARKING LOT! The semi truck and U-Haul will be the only vehicles in the back circle drive.

Thanks to everyone that supported the Cookie Dough Fundraiser! The Houston Band appreciates your support!

The Band will host the second Car Wash of the year on Saturday November 5, 2022.

Tickets will be distributed to band and colorguard members on Tuesday October 18. Please be on the lookout for the tickets coming home. Each ticket is $10 and the goal is to sell 10 tickets.

Please do your best to sell all of the tickets to support the band. The locations for each group will be determined the week prior to the event. The tickets can be used at any location.

The money raised through fundraising pays for transportation for the band, guard equipment, sheet music, props, equipment repairs, etc. All of the funds raised are used to make the band program better and to ensure that your students have the best possible experience.

If you are interested in being an adult volunteer at the Car Wash, please contact Amy Burgess at

Thank you to all the parents who have helped with uniforms this year so far! We could not do it without you! If you haven't had a chance to volunteer, there are several more opportunities coming up! We are a fun group, and it's a great way to get to know the kids!

The marching uniforms were cleaned over fall break, and we are scheduling 2 work days to help put them away: Monday, October 17th & Tuesday, October 18th from 3:30-5:30pm. We could really use a bunch of helpers! This is a big job, but goes really fast with lots of helpers. Please sign up on SignUp Genius to help if you can!

The Pit Crew needs new members to join and help the kiddos during halftime shows and competitions! The primary responsibility of the Pit Crew is to HAVE FUN! …and help move the front ensemble, or “pit,” onto and off of the field during football games and marching competitions. The Pit Crew also is responsible for building and making props as needed, transportation (truck and UHaul), repairing and maintaining carts and equipment (i.e. painting carts, inflating tires, replacing tires, keeping ladders in operational condition, etc.).

Having a student in the pit is not a requirement to be in the Pit Crew. The Pit Crew is open to all Houston Band parents who wish to join. So please join us! It’s a really cool vantage point to watch the show from (right down on the field) and possibly get a closer look at your son or daughter performing in the process!

If you are interested in joining the Pit Crew, please contact Jeff Borgsmiller via mobile phone 901-568-7583 or email If you’re unsure, and want to watch a show or two before joining that’s ok – you’re welcome to join at any time during the season.

We’ve got SUPER FUN volunteer opportunities galore, so no matter what you may be interested in or how much (or how little) time you have, we’ve got a spot for you, and we NEED you! There’s nothing more fun for kids than band – and their families! If you are interested in volunteering with The Houston Band, please complete this form as soon as possible as committees are forming now!
