Please keep up the good work with all the safety measures at school this year. We are

doing a great job with them and if we ALL follow these instructions, we can make it work!

Important Dates This Week

SENIOR BANNERS

ATTENTION SENIORS and SENIOR PARENTS! We can’t wait to honor the Class of 2021

band and color guard members by creating 24” x 36” banners again this year. See attached

sample from last year.

After getting each student’s photo (see details below), these banners will be designed, printed, and available for purchase by each senior member’s family (estimated cost of $25 per banner; details of how to pay will be forthcoming). And our band directors have a cool spot in our new space to hang the banners during the school year!

Here’s what Seniors need to know for now:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, Cohort B + any virtual students: after school photo shoot, with instrument. Seniors: go directly to the band room at the end of the day (by about 3 pm). Each senior will put on a marching uniform jacket (no hats) - so please have a t-shirt to wear underneath. Senior Color Guard, Brittany will be advising you of what you will wear. Each senior will be directed to an area (on school property) for a quick photo with our Photgrapher Parent/volunteer, Alex Leschorn.

  • Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, Cohort A + any virtual students: same as above.

  • Of course, appropriate safety/social distancing measures will be in place for this.

  • Senior mom/volunteer Richelle Kidder (rwkidder@hotmail.com) is coordinating this project, so please reach out to her with any questions.

BAND ROOM CLEANOUT PROJECT

A HUGE THANK YOU to all the students and parents that came to the band room this weekend to help put it back together. We are about 90% there and two huge dumpsters are full. Hopefully we will be able to start playing instruments this week. See the BEFORE photos below and look for some AFTER ones soon. Students: watch for a Schoology update on what day to bring in your instruments. Please make sure you have your masks, bell covers, puppy pads etc. We are so excited to christen the new band room and get back to making music together.

FOOTBALL PEP BAND

We are hoping to have a small pep band for the Houston football game on September 18th. This will not be a mandatory band event but a volunteer opportunity. A sign-up genius will be distributed this week. Seniors will be given first priority then Juniors, Sophomores and Freshmen. There will be very specific guidelines that will need to be adhered to by those playing at the game. We will also have mandatory rehearsal after school on Wednesday, September 16 and Thursday, September 17 for those signed up. Please don’t sign up for a spot if you can’t be there for those rehearsals. Watch for more details to follow in class and Schoology.

BOOSTER DUES UPDATE

During the most recent HHS Band family meeting, it was discussed that due to tax regulations, student fundraising accounts will no longer be available. Therefore, all remaining student account balances will be applied to this year’s band booster dues. Our assistant Treasurer, Molly Opferman sent an email to the affected families regarding this account adjustment. (emails were sent 8/16 and 8/17). As communicated previously, the booster dues for 2020 - 2021 school year are $500.00, this was a decrease from $725.00. Therefore, any family that has overpaid, will be receiving a refund check. Refunds will be mailed at the end of August.

If you have not paid booster dues for this school year, you may do so via PayPal

https://www.thehoustonband.com/payments or by mail (HHS Band Boosters PO Box 38233

Germantown, TN 38183). Please contact Molly Opferman (Assistant Treasurer) with any questions (opferman@gmail.com or 901-337-7154). Thank you!

Along with dues payments, if you have not returned your two forms (Parent Consent and Performance Contract) already, please complete those. They can be found here:

https://www.thehoustonband.com/forms. You can print them, sign and and return to
