ANNOUNCEMENTS

We have made the decision to cancel the trip to UT Martin scheduled for this Saturday (9/25). Instead of traveling, we will hold another Saturday rehearsal at school and work to finish putting the show on the field. This decision was not made lightly, but this option will put the band in the best possible position for the rest of the competitive season. It's important to remember that half of our after-school rehearsals have been held indoors due to weather conditions (excessive heat and rain). Our students are doing absolutely wonderful work under very difficult circumstances, and we want to give them the very best chance of having the kind of success they deserve.


This Saturday's schedule will follow the same plan we had for last Saturday's mini-camp.


9:00 AM - Students on the field with all equipment (instruments, flags/rifles, dot cards, water bottles)


12:00 PM - The Hospitality Committee will provide pizza for lunch (Please see the sign-up genius below for Donations & Volunteers).

4:00 PM - Dismissal


We WILL be attending the rest of our competitions starting with Huntingdon on 10/2.

Tues/Thurs Rehearsal AND Mini Band Camp:

  • You MUST have your large water bottle (from camp) with you. Fill it up fully before going outside for rehearsal.

  • You should have sunglasses and a hat to keep the sun out of your eyes (so you can keep your eyes open and watch the Drum Majors).

  • Please bring appropriate clothing for an outdoor rehearsal in August (shorts and t shirts).

IMPORTANT NOTE

Please remember that ALL rehearsals and performances are mandatory for all members of the Houston High School Band Program. Missing rehearsals or performances can have an adverse effect on student grades. We depend on each and every band member

to have a successful year.

HOME FOOTBALL GAME, FRIDAY, SEPT 24, 2021


Required Dress

  • Member shirts (NOT show shirts), gym shorts, and long black socks

Schedule

  • 5:00 - All students in the band room and dressing in uniforms

  • 5:30 - Guard in the PE Gym

  • 5:45 - Winds/Percussion dressed and in place for warm-ups (winds in new room, percussion outside)

  • 6:15 - Move into the stadium

  • 6:30 - Perform the Show

  • 7:00 - Kickoff

  • Halftime - Homecoming Court

  • After the Game - Hang uniforms carefully and setup for Saturday’s trip to UT Martin

Uniform Help Next Weekend: If you signed up to help plume at the home game Friday, please be on hand at 4:30pm to move racks. If you signed up to help after the game, please meet in the uniform room right after the game. A big THANK YOU for all the help we've gotten with uniforms so far! This is a team effort and we could not have done all this without your help!

WTSBOA MARCHING FESTIVAL, SAT, SEPT 25, 2021

  • 5:30am - Get uniform bags and hat boxes ready

  • 6:05am - Load buses

  • 6:15am - Meeting in the big band room

  • 6:30am - Leave HHS

  • 12:15pm - Performance

  • 4:00pm - Arrive at HHS. Put up uniforms, unload truck and U-Haul

  • 4:15pm - Go home

Thank you to the families who have paid HHS band dues so far. All payments received via PayPal, Wooden Box, and PO Box through August 17th have been logged/deposited.


**As a reminder dues are $725 (siblings $100 discount - $625)**


Payments can be made by a check payable to The Houston Band Boosters that can be dropped off in the wooden box located in Mr. Taylor's office or mailed to HHS Band Boosters/P.O. Box 38233/Germantown, TN 38183.


Payments can also be made via PayPal using the link on the band website (thehoustonband.com) under the members tab/payments. For clarity, please include your student's name with all correspondence and payments.

MINI BAND CAMP WEEKEND

Houston Band Mini Camp is this weekend!

Friday, Sept 17, 6-9pm and Saturday, Sept 18, 9am-4pm

This camp is required for ALL band students.


  • Friday, the students are free at school dismissal (2:45pm) and need to be on the field in the stadium with their equipment (instruments, flags, rifles, etc), water bottles, and dot cards by 5:55pm

  • Saturday the students need to be on the field in the stadium with all of their equipment, water bottles, and dot cards by 8:55am

  • The parents will feed the students lunch outside in the stadium

  • We will dismiss at 4pm

Saturday's lunch of hamburgers, veggie burgers, and hotdogs with sides of chips, fruit, and dessert will be provided by the Boosters. Please bring a beach towel as your seat. **If you are vegetarian, please email Amy Eoff (amyeoff@gmail.com) by MONDAY, Sept 13th so she can have enough veggie burgers.
