Houston High
School Band
12th
Annual COLORFEST
The Houston
High School Band and Band Boosters will again host COLORFEST, our
annual Indoor Percussion and
Color Guard Contest.
All indoor groups, including drumline, percussion ensemble, and
color guard units, are invited to participate in what will be a friendly
and fun day of performance and competition.
Qualified and
experienced indoor adjudicators will be judging this competition.
Classifications for entry will follow Winter Guard International
guidelines (explained below).
Scoring, however, will be done in a
much kinder and gentler
fashion. This contest is
intended to promote indoor activities in the hope that inexperienced
groups will be comfortable with the positive nature of the critique.
Every unit will receive a trophy to indicate placement.
Drumline,
Percussion Ensemble, and Color Guard units may determine the level at
which they wish to compete by entering one of four different
classifications. These
classifications from less to more demanding are:
Novice, A, Open, or World.
If you are new to this activity and need guidance, please call us
for advice. There will be a
separate class for middle school guard and percussion groups. Timing
limits will not be enforced.
We are recommending 2½ to 5 minutes of performance time for guard and up
to 10 minutes for drumlines and percussion ensembles.
Getting on and off of the floor will not be timed.
The registration
form can easily be downloaded from below.
Houston High School is located in Germantown, Tennessee, just outside of
Memphis. A map, schedule,
and additional information will be mailed shortly after the deadline.
Deadline for entry is Februrary 4, 2011.
