The 2008 Houston High School Winterguard
finished its season strong with multiple placements
in various contests throughout the United States.
Traveling to Dayton, Ohio, to the Winterguard
International competition (WGI), they competed
against over 120 winterguard teams from across the globe.
The Houston High Winterguard is under the direction
of Mr. Marcus Brown-Adams.
The indoor color guard, also known as winterguard, is a subsection of the very successful Houston High marching band. Often known as the Sport of the Arts, winterguard builds skills in dance, design, and choreography while presenting a sense of pageantry to its audience. The indoor season technically begins in November after the marching season ends. Composition, however, for the indoor season actually goes on all year long. Color guard director, Marcus Brown-Adams, along with band director, Jim Smith, develop the music and corresponding flag, rifle, saber, and dance work months ahead of time. Once practices begin in November, the girls practice over 15 hours per week rehearsing their show in preparation for the competition season that runs from January through April. Winterguard members commit over six weekends in the spring semester for competition.
The following schedule outlines the practices for the summer. If changes are needed, an email will be sent and the web site will be updated. If you are in town, you are expected to attend practices, so please make every effort to attend the appropriate sessions, as it will help make our fall season really successful!
